Airbnb was born in 2007 when two hosts welcomed three guests to their San Francisco home, and has since grown to over 5 million hosts who have welcomed over 2 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe. Every day, hosts offer unique stays and experiences that make it possible for guests to connect with communities in a more authentic way. The DLS Foundation team has a deep history at Airbnb with contributions that date back to the inception of Airbnb’s Design Language System (DLS). The team is responsible for our design system building blocks - our core atomic components, layouts, and visual foundations - alongside the UI capabilities we provide to enable advanced visual effects, haptics that hundreds of client engineers at Airbnb leverage. As part of the larger UI Foundation team that contributes to Airbnb’s digital accessibility, Motion and UI tooling, we are involved in all stages of the product development lifecycle, from conceptualization to launch. As a central, cross-platform team consisting of Android, iOS, and Web engineers, we partner closely with Product Engineering, Design, and Product teams.
