Aviation Back End Software Engineer

About the position

As a back-end Aviation Software Engineer at the Weather Company, you will directly contribute to the success of our aviation applications. These applications are used by dispatchers and pilots worldwide to help them execute safe and efficient flights by combining real-time weather and aviation data into rich, interactive presentations. You will leverage a variety of technologies such as GoLang, messaging systems, databases, and REST APIs to add value to our application suite.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement services in our next-generation aviation application suite.
• Write clean, efficient, and scalable code using key programming languages.
• Collaborate with product owners, designers, as well as internal SMEs to understand and flesh out requirements.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, including design documents, API specifications, and user guides.
• Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in software development.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as GoLang, C#, Python, or a similar back-end language.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL (MongoDB) database systems.
• Experience with containerized applications using Kubernetes.
• Experience with messaging systems such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently or in a team.
• Understanding of software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum) and best practices.
• Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git, SVN) and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in performance optimization, profiling, and tuning of software applications.
• Experience with a front-end framework such as React.
