About the position
This is an opportunity to join a team with a goal of providing new features and functionality to iCloud customers by integrating together the client-device and cloud domains as well as provide an avenue for exploratory work as needed. Your work will involve everything from building simple-to-use User Interfaces and experiences to Client frameworks with performance and power efficiency in mind. You love collaborating within the team and equally meaningfully, with cross-functional engineering teams. In addition to crafting efficient, testable, easy-to-maintain code, you recognize the importance of writing functional specifications and design documents. As a key member on our team, you are responsible for maintaining our technology stack and for crafting new functionality. You are an extremely capable engineer who has a strong background in building high-performance, extensible systems. The successful applicant will have a strong background in system-level engineering, the vision to create foundational work and build on it to provide functionality, and the drive to successfully see tasks through to completion, Quality is number one in your mind, and you thrive on building comprehensive unit and end-to-end tests, not only for features you build but also for existing features that need more testing.
Responsibilities
- Provide new features and functionality to iCloud customers by integrating client-device and cloud domains.
- Build simple-to-use User Interfaces and experiences.
- Develop Client frameworks with performance and power efficiency in mind.
- Collaborate within the team and with cross-functional engineering teams.
- Write functional specifications and design documents.
- Maintain the technology stack and craft new functionality.
- Build high-performance, extensible systems.
- Create comprehensive unit and end-to-end tests for new and existing features.
Requirements
- 5+ years experience with iOS and/or Mac systems/application engineering, focusing on framework development.
- Experience building pixel-perfect, complex, and accessible user interfaces/applications in Objective-C and Swift.
- Experience defining and integrating with Web Service APIs.
- Inquisitive and highly-motivated self-starter and problem solver.
- Demonstrated experience designing, building, and maintaining high-performance systems and frameworks.
- Deep understanding of software design patterns and software development.
- Comfortable navigating and exploring large code bases.
- Excellent collaboration skills and ability to drive discussions to align large cross-functional teams.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience integrating with OS services using XPC.
- Understanding of security practices like privilege separation/escalation.
- Demonstrated experience in influencing the architecture of backend systems.
- Interest and experience working with rich web applications using modern web technologies.
