About the position

Help serve Google's worldwide user base of more than a billion people. Data Scientists provide quantitative support, market understanding and a strategic perspective to our partners throughout the organization. As a data-loving member of the team, you serve as an analytics expert for your partners, using numbers to help them make better decisions. You will weave stories with meaningful insight from data. You'll make critical recommendations for your fellow Googlers in Engineering and Product Management. You relish tallying up the numbers one minute and communicating your findings to a team leader the next. The Android Data Science team drives the data science initiatives (metrics, experiments, analyses, modeling, etc) for the entire Android organization. Our primary goal is to enable teams across Android to make better product decisions using data. The Platform and Devices Engineering, Infrastructure and Operations team (PDEIO) works to increase the productivity of all engineers in the ecosystem, starting right here at Google. The team enables everyone to ship high-quality code quickly. The goal is to take the world's largest operating system to new heights of efficiency, velocity and effectiveness. Android is Google’s open-source mobile operating system powering more than 3 billion devices worldwide. Android is about bringing computing to everyone in the world. Responsibilities

  • Provide data science guidance, enabling data-motivated decisions that accelerate development and improve efficiency.
  • Influence the team roadmap, advocating the development of the right tools and processes that empower engineers to build better products faster, and partner within Platform and Devices, Core Developer, and many other organizations to accelerate and simplify the developer workflows for Android and Chrome engineers.
  • Work with the core infrastructure team to optimize the continuous integration (CI) pipelines in the era of autonomous development agents.
  • Work with teams to develop and use foundational machine learning/artificial intelligence (ML/AI) models that seamlessly integrate with products and services solving business problems using ML and large-language models (LLM) solutions.
  • Utilize AI/ML models and tools to optimize the use of compute resources used to build and test software in continuous integration pipelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, Physics, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
  • 5 years of work experience with analysis applications (extracting insights, performing statistical analysis, or solving business problems), and coding (Python, R, SQL) or 2 years work experience with a Master's degree.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, Physics, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
  • 5 years of work experience with analysis applications (extracting insights, performing statistical analysis, or solving business problems), and coding (Python, R, SQL).

Benefits

  • The US base salary range for this full-time position is $132,000-$189,000 + bonus + equity + benefits.
  • Compensation details reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits.
