About the position

This position requires candidates to demonstrate sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties associated with the role. Experience can include both paid and unpaid work, including volunteer service through National Service programs. Candidates must clearly outline their duties and responsibilities in their resume, including the total number of hours worked per week. Radiological certification is required for positions at GS-3 and above, in accordance with Public Law 97-35. Candidates must have completed an accredited educational program and be certified as radiographers in their field. The position has specific minimum qualifications based on the GS level, ranging from GS-02 to GS-06, each with distinct experience and education requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform dental assistance duties in a clinical setting.
  • Provide chairside assistance during dental procedures.
  • Set up instruments and equipment for dental treatments.
  • Record treatments rendered and maintain patient records.
  • Expose and process digital oral x-rays.

Requirements

  • For GS-02: 3 months of general experience or a high school diploma.
  • For GS-03: 6 months of general experience or completion of a 1-year dental assistant program.
  • For GS-04: 6 months of general experience and 6 months of specialized experience.
  • For GS-05: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-04 level.
  • For GS-06: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-05 level.

Nice-to-haves

  • Completion of a dental hygiene program accredited by the American Dental Association.
  • Experience in expanded function dental assisting.
