Distinguished Engineers will significantly impact the Tech agenda within their organization and devise clear roadmaps to deliver next generation technology solutions across organizational boundaries. We are seeking a Distinguished engineer to join the Finance Technology organization at Capital One. Finance Technology is positioning the Finance organization as a strategic enabler at Capital One. We engineer outcomes that transform how finance gets done through technology innovation and cutting edge products and services. The Distinguished engineer will lead architectural convergence between enterprise finance applications that serve our core finance functions such as accounting, tax, treasury and FP&A. Working alongside software and data engineering teams they will drive the design and development of applications that analyze, process and move massive amounts of financial data between systems including the General Ledger.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain an overall architecture for the domain, in alignment with divisional and enterprise guidelines
  • Look broadly across the domain to ensure consistency in architecture across the domain
  • Collaborate with other domain architects and the divisional architecture team to ensure consistency across multiple domains
  • Identify opportunities for application reuse and consolidation, both within your domain and by providing or consuming capabilities from other domains or lines of business
  • Represent and advocate on behalf of your domain to the larger architecture community, particularly the Divisional Chief Architect and peers in the architecture center of practice
  • Guide the domain architecture team in problem solving activities, ensuring that all voices are heard and understood while driving to timely, realistic solutions
  • Ensure architecture decisions are clearly documented, communicated, and maintained for all initiatives within the domain
  • Promote a culture of engineering excellence and being well-managed, using opportunities to reuse and innersource solutions where possible
  • Effectively communicate with and influence key stakeholders across the domain
  • Lead the way in keeping both the technology and the technologists in the domain up-to-date with modern architecture practices
  • Protect against missed opportunities by providing or soliciting diverse points of view on how to solve our problems

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 7 years of experience with application architecture and design patterns
  • At least 5 years of experience with architectural patterns (SOA), building APIs, microservices, event streams, and high throughput systems

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or a Master's Degree in Software Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience of working with business leaders on the implications of architectural decisions
  • 4+ years building cloud native architectures, architecting enterprise applications on public cloud platforms and cloud ecosystems (AWS, GCP or Azure)
  • 4+ years of experience with Enterprise Resource Planning Systems (Oracle Fusion, Oracle Financial Applications, Workday, or SAP)
  • 5+ years experience with DevOps or DevSecOps and building CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, Artifactory, Chef, Ansible, AWS CloudFormation templates, GitHub, and Sonar
