About the position

To install, repair and adjust component parts on experimental projects.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, lays out and performs the more standard mechanical operations required to develop assemblies, structures and components for experimental aircraft.
  • Completes aircraft modification and systems installation using Engineering drawings and work orders.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs and adjusts aircraft systems and power plant controls.
  • Services and prepares experimental airplane for takeoff and flight tests.
  • May be required to go into the field to 'troubleshoot' or service experimental or new model aircraft which are on tour.
  • Assists in planning and laying out of more complex mechanical operations.
  • Uses mechanic hand tools, testing devices, and precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, scale, vernier calipers, height gauge, and indicator gauge.
  • May occasionally guide and instruct lower grade experimental mechanics.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma, an equivalent certificate, or a bronze level WorkKeys certification.
  • Requires the use of ordinary drawings, shop math and some measuring devices.
  • A&P license required.
  • Requires a minimum 3 years of aircraft, engine and flight line maintenance or related experience including 2 years of experimental mechanic experience.
  • Preferred 5 years of experience as an A&P Mechanic.
