About the position
To install, repair and adjust component parts on experimental projects.
Responsibilities
- Plans, lays out and performs the more standard mechanical operations required to develop assemblies, structures and components for experimental aircraft.
- Completes aircraft modification and systems installation using Engineering drawings and work orders.
- Troubleshoots, repairs and adjusts aircraft systems and power plant controls.
- Services and prepares experimental airplane for takeoff and flight tests.
- May be required to go into the field to 'troubleshoot' or service experimental or new model aircraft which are on tour.
- Assists in planning and laying out of more complex mechanical operations.
- Uses mechanic hand tools, testing devices, and precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, scale, vernier calipers, height gauge, and indicator gauge.
- May occasionally guide and instruct lower grade experimental mechanics.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Requirements
- Must have a high school diploma, an equivalent certificate, or a bronze level WorkKeys certification.
- Requires the use of ordinary drawings, shop math and some measuring devices.
- A&P license required.
- Requires a minimum 3 years of aircraft, engine and flight line maintenance or related experience including 2 years of experimental mechanic experience.
- Preferred 5 years of experience as an A&P Mechanic.
