About the position

The position involves installing, repairing, and adjusting component parts on experimental projects. The role requires performing standard mechanical operations to develop assemblies, structures, and components for experimental aircraft. The individual will complete aircraft modifications and systems installations using engineering drawings and work orders, troubleshoot, repair, and adjust aircraft systems and power plant controls, and service and prepare experimental airplanes for takeoff and flight tests. There may be occasions where the individual is required to go into the field to troubleshoot or service experimental or new model aircraft that are on tour. Additionally, the role includes assisting in planning and laying out more complex mechanical operations and may involve guiding and instructing lower-grade experimental mechanics. Other related duties may be required as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, lays out and performs standard mechanical operations for developing assemblies, structures, and components for experimental aircraft.
  • Completes aircraft modification and systems installation using engineering drawings and work orders.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, and adjusts aircraft systems and power plant controls.
  • Services and prepares experimental airplanes for takeoff and flight tests.
  • May go into the field to troubleshoot or service experimental or new model aircraft on tour.
  • Assists in planning and laying out more complex mechanical operations.
  • Uses mechanic hand tools, testing devices, and precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, scale, vernier calipers, height gauge, and indicator gauge.
  • May occasionally guide and instruct lower grade experimental mechanics.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma, an equivalent certificate, or a bronze level WorkKeys certification.
  • Requires the use of ordinary drawings, shop math, and some measuring devices.
  • A&P license required.
  • Requires a minimum of 3 years of aircraft, engine, and flight line maintenance or related experience including 2 years of experimental mechanic experience.
  • Preferred 5 years of experience as an A&P Mechanic.
