About the position

Join the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) as a Solution Engineer, supporting disaster response and recovery efforts in a fast-paced environment. Under the direction of the Data and Innovation Manager, you will collaborate with IT and program staff to enhance data and GIS analytics capabilities. This role involves creating analytical tools for emergency response data, modifying existing solutions, and resolving production support issues. You will also contribute to open data research, perform data modeling, and implement data management standards in compliance with Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) standards.

Responsibilities

  • Create, analyze, design, develop, test, implement, maintain, and report on data and GIS solutions.
  • Coordinate and fulfill requests for data and geospatial work products.
  • Create and maintain solution documentation, database schemas, and standard operating procedures.
  • Contribute to open data research and development activities.
  • Perform data modeling and advanced analytics using machine learning and artificial intelligence.
  • Implement data management standards and best practices.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with ESRI GIS Software Platform.
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL.
  • Experience in creating and deploying automations and system integrations.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and tools like Snowflake.
  • Proficiency with data integration tools such as FME and Airbyte.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience in disaster response and recovery efforts or similar fast-paced environments.
  • Creativity and flexibility in devising innovative solutions for technical challenges.
