About the position

This position is responsible for all activities with blood and blood components including, but not limited to, logging-in the units, thawing plasma, thawing and pooling cryoprecipitate, irradiate products and washing RBCs; setting up patient or blood product samples for testing by a technologist/automated machine; maintenance of lab equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Handles blood and blood products by accessioning patient samples, spinning down the blood in the centrifuge and logging all blood products in the computer
  • Set up, maintain, calibrate, clean, and test sterility of medical laboratory equipment.
  • Prepare solutions used for laboratory testing and procedures
  • Prepare specimens for testing under the guidance of a medical technologist.
  • Ensures all computer entries are accurate.
  • Places orders in LIS and files various documents
  • Provides customer assistance by answering the phone for the department
  • Receives customer orders and communicates these orders to the technologists
  • Screens all other calls and directs them as appropriate

Requirements

  • Some experience in a laboratory setting.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrate competency in routine testing in assigned Laboratory area.
  • Ability to effectively relate and communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory information systems.
  • Ability to organize tasks and projects work without close supervision to complete tasks.
