About the position

The Google DeepMind Legal team is looking for an adept and enthusiastic Associate Product Counsel to partner with our product and research teams to advise on legal matters relevant to developing and releasing AI models, products, and systems. You'll also work with cross-functional teams to ensure we're prepared for forthcoming regulatory changes that might impact our technology. Finally, you'll collaborate closely with Google DeepMind product teams, other members of the legal team, compliance teams, Google Regulatory Affairs, and with outside counsel when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with and advise multiple cross functional groups within Google DeepMind, including Research, Product Management, Security, Responsibility, and Compliance teams.
  • Serve as dedicated counsel to certain models within the Gemini model family to drive legal analysis on launch-critical work.
  • Provide tailored legal counsel for the development and deployment of Gemini Embedding models, advising across technical teams and senior management.
  • Collaborate with teams to responsibly acquire data from vendors, ensuring robust, scalable compliance frameworks that meet AI model development needs.
  • Advise technical teams and senior management about how to enable key Gemini model capabilities, identifying and advising on key legal and regulatory frameworks relevant to those model capabilities.
  • Identify and advise on legal considerations around Google DeepMind's training and data pipelines.

Requirements

  • You have a JD from a United States accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
  • You're proactive, have exceptional communication skills, and know how to balance business demands to produce practical, solution-focused recommendations.
  • You're experienced in partnering with executives and senior stakeholders on sophisticated legal matters that have strategic significance.
  • You're organized, accustomed to working at a fast pace, and juggling many different business initiatives.
