This role manages, plans, promotes, organizes, and administers the Department of Recreation marketing for all programs, events, and activities. This position also manages special events.
Responsibilities
Manages operations, including planning and scheduling special events, registration, hiring and scheduling staff members, budgeting, procuring necessary supplies and equipment, and working with the appropriate Recreation Department employees to market the programs to the public.
Selects, develops, and supervises paid staff and volunteers.
Coordinates the equipment, supplies, and set-up for all special events.
Prepares the budget and directs the expenditure of funds and the keeping of department records.
Interprets recreation programs to the public and maintains cooperative planning and working relationships with allied public and voluntary agencies.
Serves as technical adviser to managing authority and as recreation consultant to community.
Adapts recreation programs to meet needs of the department and the community.
Introduces new program activities, equipment, and materials to staff.
Creates and implements all marketing efforts including website, emails, flyers, constant contact, biannual brochures, and the print materials for the Department of Recreation.
Oversees sponsorship efforts to attract and maintain business partners.
Interprets recreation service to public and participates in community meetings and organizational planning.
Works on a team with other recreation personnel to ensure that recreation is well balanced, coordinated, and integrated.
Serves as the main point of contact for all Recreation Department recruitment efforts.
Develops all recruitment marketing materials.
Attends job fairs, high school career fairs, community events, etc. to advertise open positions.
Works with area schools and colleges to develop internship programs and recruit candidates.
Develops a comprehensive marketing plan for the entire department.
Works with staff at every location to implement a uniform and cohesive structure for all marketing.
Works with the Executive Communications team to provide content for the main City social media accounts and email newsletters, and to ensure that Recreation and City-wide marketing efforts are aligned and cohesive.
Develops a comprehensive and uniform special events plan and schedule for the entire Recreation Department.
Works with staff at every location to implement and execute events according to this plan.
Attends Recreation events, City events, community events, etc. to advertise Recreation Department offerings.
Serves at the main point of contact for community groups to inform them of special events and programs in their areas, and to find out the wants/needs of their groups.
Regularly attends neighborhood/community group meetings.
Responds to all general inquiry emails from websites, social media messages, etc.
Supervises multiple employees including the Recreation Marketing & Special Events Specialist, Recreation Marketing & Special Events Interns, and the Recreation Support Technician.
Ensures program content is up-to-date and accurate in WebTrac and that marketing materials are consistent with WebTrac listings.
Works with department leadership to establish a schedule for RecTrac/WebTrac trainings.
Supervises all Recreation Department staff at City sponsored special events and marketing events to deliver quality programs.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS), and 2 years of related experience required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid South Carolina Driver’s License.
CPR certification.
First Aid certification.
Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Excel and Word or similar software.
Thorough knowledge of and experience managing social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, etc.)
Nice-to-haves
Master’s degree in related field.
Certified Park and Recreation (CPRP) Professional.
