About the position

The New Product Introduction (NPI) Technician Supervisor leads a large team of skilled NPI Engineering Technicians supporting product launches at Teslas Manufacturing facilities including vehicles, batteries, drive units, charging and storage systems - the things that make Tesla unique. The NPI Technician Supervisors work with a diverse cross-functional team supporting every phase of Teslas product development lifecycle, including hand-building low volume engineering trials, executing extended product validation builds, validating equipment and process readiness for production launch, and training production teams as products launch. Successful candidates will demonstrate superior leadership and communication skills; a background in low volume, high variability production; and an excellent work ethic.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain a strong, motivated team capable of delivering high-quality results, meeting aggressive product development targets, and adhering to high standards in safety, quality, innovation, collaboration, teamwork, and trustworthiness
  • Allocate NPI technicians across multiple sites and technical requirements while ensuring build timelines and objectives are met
  • Maintain and track team KPIs, forecasting headcount needs based on current and future program requirements
  • Develop and implement hiring, training, and career progression plans to enhance individual skillsets and team performance
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with program teams to achieve aggressive project milestones and address competing program priorities effectively
  • Prioritize tasks and allocate resources to meet program objectives while balancing various competing priorities
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and accountability, ensuring the team consistently delivers high-quality outcomes

Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering or equivalent in experience
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment with 3+ years managing teams in a production or technical setting
  • Proven ability to select, develop, and lead teams, including developing and maintaining performance metrics
  • Experience in process development, equipment bring-up, and small-volume, high-variability manufacturing
  • Strong knowledge of 5S, lean manufacturing, or 6-Sigma principles, with proficiency in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project)
  • Demonstrated organizational and communication skills, with experience successfully managing teams in a technical environment
  • Ability to implement performance metrics and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
