About the position

As a New Product Introduction Performance Engineer for Rolls-Royce, you will be a part of the Global System Engineering and Product Performance Capability team. This role involves design, simulation, and verification of engines/power systems at a whole system level to predict and verify system attributes which come from the integration of sub-system components. The role encompasses a wide range of technical activities ranging from development of computer models from engineering first principles, 1D thermodynamic simulation, empirical modelling, understanding of certification requirements and physical testing. In addition, the role requires integration skills to allow requirements, data, and product understanding to be gathered and disseminated across various stake holders (e.g. internal sub-system and component teams, airframers, regulatory authorities and customers).

Responsibilities

  • Own the definition of the product cycle.
  • Provide prediction and analysis of product attributes at the whole system/platform level.
  • Gather, manage and disseminate requirements from/to a range of internal and external customers.
  • Provide data to sub-systems for product design and development.
  • Define and manage system and product interfaces.
  • Provide insight into product/aircraft interaction.
  • Provide insight and analysis of real-world operation and customer usage.
  • Manage relationships with internal and external customers.

  • Knowledge and experience of product integrity / liability and certification frameworks.
  • Experience in mechanical design methodologies and understanding of cross-discipline engineering concepts including manufacturing engineering, aerodynamics, thermodynamics, thermal and mechanical analysis, cost engineering and product definition.
  • Simulation/modelling of gas turbine cycles, hybrid electric systems, cycle analysis, engine operability, sizing and/or preliminary design analysis.
  • Engine cycle design to meet aircraft manufacturer or government objectives including current and future technologies.
  • Experience in thermodynamic cycle modelling in Numerical Propulsion System Simulation (NPSS) or similar.
  • Proficiency in computer programming languages such as FORTRAN, Visual Basic, and/or C++/Matlab.
