Roblox is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to help shape the future of how we run enterprises. In this role, you'll build systems that make us more efficient and scalable as an organization, driving innovation across our business products, e.g. internal tools, HR systems, and more. With AI transforming the way we work, you'll have the autonomy to explore and integrate cutting-edge solutions that help Roblox operate at 10x efficiency. This is a new team at Roblox. We need someone who thrives with autonomy and ownership - a builder who can advocate for best development practices, seamlessly collaborate with other teams & external vendors, and work directly with Roblox Executives to drive meaningful impact. As a Principal Software Engineer, you'll be a pivotal leader, driving technical excellence and strategic innovation across our core operations. You will champion the development of high-impact internal products that empower our teams and shape the future of how we operate. In this role, you will report to a seasoned and tenured Engineering Manager in ROS.

Responsibilities

  • Define and pioneer technical roadmaps for complex internal products, collaborating closely with executive leadership across engineering, product, design, and people teams to innovate company-wide processes.
  • Architect and lead the delivery of highly scalable and resilient systems, ensuring alignment with long-term strategic objectives and setting the bar for engineering best practices.
  • Drive cross-functional technical alignment, acting as a key influencer to unify diverse teams around a shared technical vision and ensuring seamless execution of critical initiatives.
  • Serve as a technical authority and mentor, guiding and uplifting senior engineers across a broad spectrum of technologies, from cutting-edge frontend to robust backend and intricate infrastructure challenges.
  • Champion the adoption and integration of advanced AI/ML solutions, proactively identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, automate complex workflows, and unlock new business insights.
  • Establish and propagate exemplary engineering standards, fostering a culture of technical rigor, quality, and future-proofing in all development efforts.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of deep, hands-on experience architecting, building, and deploying complex full-stack systems, encompassing sophisticated backend services, robust APIs, and highly interactive frontend applications.
  • 5+ years of expertise in designing and implementing performant and scalable web, mobile, or cross-platform UI technologies, with extensive experience in modern frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, Vue).
  • Demonstrated mastery of modern cloud-native architectures, including expert-level proficiency with container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker), infrastructure as code (Terraform), and/or major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
  • 4+ years of proven experience leading and successfully delivering large-scale, cross-organizational technical initiatives with significant business impact.
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with large-scale data processing, distributed systems, or the application of machine learning in production environments.
