About the position

The Product Engineer is responsible for supporting planning, designing, developing, costing, and ensuring production readiness for product enhancements or New Product Introduction (NPI). Serve as a key member of the Sustaining Engineering team, leading projects from concept to production launch while ensuring compliance with product specifications, certification standards, and manufacturability. The engineer will be responsible for all design-related activities on assigned projects, including product specifications, collaborating with cross-functional teams, supplier coordination, conducting design failure mode and effects analysis (DFMEA), and creating comprehensive design verification plans and reports (DVP&R). This role is physically located at our Lanark, IL manufacturing plant, but will spend time at our Downers Grove and Savanna locations from time to time.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical resource for new product development and product enhancements.
  • Recommend and implement changes to procedures, protocols, and processes to improve product design and performance.
  • Effectively communicate technical data to engineering peers cross-functional teams (quality, manufacturing, marketing, and supply chain), and external vendors, providing recommendations based on analysis of data.
  • Support product design requirements, including: Creating and updating design specifications, managing and documenting design reviews, developing bills of materials (BOMs), instruction manuals, ensuring compliance with regulatory and certification standards, conducting product testing and test data analysis.
  • Execute multiple projects simultaneously across multi-location production sites, ensuring on-time delivery and cost efficiency.
  • Work closely with the production and supply chain teams to optimize manufacturability, reduce costs, and improve product reliability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Applied Science, or its equivalent
  • 3-5 years of experience in product development, engineering, or a manufacturing environment, preferably in a related industry (e.g., plumbing products, consumer goods, or mechanical systems).
  • Must be able to travel up to 15% of the time
  • Strong knowledge of multi-component assemblies, design for manufacturability (DFM), and design for assembly (DFA).
  • Proficient in Microsoft office tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D modeling software, as well as PLM systems (preferred).
  • Experience building and testing prototypes, iterating based on test results, and troubleshooting design issues.
  • Provide technical guidance to engineers or technicians assigned to work on a common project.
  • Experience with formal lab reports and test documentation.
  • Ability to interact at all levels and functions.
