We’re looking for a hands-on, detail-driven Purchasing Agent who can juggle numbers, vendors, and inventory with precision—while always keeping an eye on the big picture. Responsibilities
- Keep inventory levels just right at each branch—never too heavy, never too light
- Monitor demand trends and adjust purchasing to avoid shortages or excess
- Work directly with manufacturers to get accurate lead times, secure special pricing, and meet unique customer delivery needs
- Track orders like a hawk—ensuring timely delivery and jumping in to expedite when needed
- Negotiate like a pro—securing rebates, terms, and pricing that drive real savings
- Resolve pricing and invoice discrepancies before they become a problem
- Own the purchasing process in Eclipse, and master systems like Phocas for smarter decision-making
- Review daily suggested POs and make confident calls
- Identify slow-moving or aged inventory and help keep our shelves agile
- Build strong vendor relationships that make us a partner of choice
- Stay plugged into the industry—attend trainings, trade shows, and vendor events
- Be relentless with follow-through—if you start it, you finish it
Requirements
- Previous purchasing experience strongly preferred
- HVAC or building construction knowledge is a big plus
- Solid understanding of logistics and how the supply chain really works
- Strong interpersonal skills—you work well with warehouse crews, vendors, and leadership alike
- A knack for creative problem-solving and a calm head under pressure
- Comfortable in Excel, Word, Eclipse (or similar ERP system), and other business systems
- A self-starter who takes initiative and works well independently or as part of a team
- A high level of professionalism, integrity, and accountability
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
