About the position

The Community School Resource Coordinator serves as a vital link between the SGA, school, and community. This role involves planning and managing out-of-school time activities with input from parents and the school. The coordinator maintains communication and acts as a liaison between the agency, school, and community, including attending community meetings. The position requires meeting grant expectations set by CPS and the agency, implementing strategies to strengthen relationships between the school, family, and community, and developing, maintaining, and publicizing a schedule of programs and activities offered through the Community School Initiative. Additionally, the coordinator assesses and identifies additional community resources, makes appropriate referrals, and facilitates ongoing communication between service providers, teachers, parents, and students. Responsibilities also include coordinating workshops, managing agency expectations for reporting and documentation, providing support to community-based organizations, maintaining accurate records, and engaging with school leadership, staff, parents, and community members to create a safe and healthy learning environment. The role also involves recruiting and monitoring individuals and organizations that offer programs and services at the school, demonstrating fiscal responsibility in managing program budgets, and performing other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Community School Resource Coordinator between SGA, school, and community.

  • Facilitate ongoing communication between service providers, teachers, parents, and students.
  • Coordinate classroom workshops, teacher/parent/community training.
  • Manage all agency expectations for reporting, data, and other documentation on a timely basis for programs.
  • Provide support and consultation to community-based organizations.
  • Maintain accurate records; evaluate and make recommendations of programs.
  • Accept the role and responsibilities of serving as an agent of change within the school and community.
  • Engage, coordinate, and support school leadership and staff, parents, community members, and students.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and monitor individuals and organizations that offer programs and services.
  • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility in negotiating with vendors and managing program budgets.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • Minimum 1-3 years experience working with children and/or adults in a nonprofit social service or community development organization.
  • Experience working in and with Chicago Public Schools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop community partnerships.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple responsibilities and maintain accurate records.
  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity and ability to communicate with diverse families and professionals.
  • Exercises discretion and independent judgment in executing tasks.
  • Able to work with families and school community.
  • Full attendance and participation in supervision and all scheduled training.
  • Current or former resident of the Auburn Gresham neighborhood preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge and experience of working with Chicago Public Schools.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office tools and inputting services in an online database.
  • Valid driver’s license, car insurance, and access to a car.
