About the position

Handtevy Pediatric Emergency Standards is a leading provider of pediatric emergency care solutions. We are dedicated to improving the quality of pediatric and adult emergency medical services by providing innovative tools and standards for healthcare professionals worldwide. We are seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer with strong experience in building and scaling backend services, APIs, and cloud-native systems. You will contribute to the evolution of our mission-critical SaaS platform that supports life-saving pediatric and adult emergency care. This position is available following one of these schedules: Five days in the office or Hybrid (3 days a week in the office).

Responsibilities

  • Architect, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Node.js (NestJS).
  • Design and implement RESTful APIs and collaborate closely with frontend teams for seamless feature delivery.
  • Build optimized SQL and NoSQL schemas to ensure data integrity and performance.
  • Champion code quality, security best practices, and test coverage across the codebase.
  • Maintain logging and observability using modern APM tools.
  • Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and sprint planning.
  • Stay abreast of new technologies, patterns, and tools that can improve team velocity and product quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of backend development experience with a focus on Node.js and NestJS.
  • Strong experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs.
  • Deep understanding of authentication protocols (OAuth2, JWT, SSO).
  • Proficiency with relational and NoSQL databases: SQL: MySQL (optional: PostgreSQL, MSSQL), NoSQL: MongoDB (optional: Redis, DynamoDB), ORMs: TypeORM (optional: Sequelize).
  • Experience with AWS services (e.g., S3, CloudWatch, SES, CloudFront, Aurora, CodeBuild).
  • Hands-on experience with Docker, Git, and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Bitbucket Pipelines).
  • Strong grasp of software design patterns, security best practices, and system architecture.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills in a fast-paced, Agile environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with PHP and legacy system integration.
  • Familiarity with AI tools and techniques (ML, NLP, LLMs).
  • Knowledge of Datadog, New Relic, or similar observability platforms.
  • Background in healthcare tech.
  • Experience designing or maintaining data pipelines and ETL processes, working with tools like AWS Glue, Redshift, Snowflake, or similar.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
