About the position

We’re looking for a Senior Product Manager, Search & Signals to lead the strategy, development, and optimization of GIPHY’s search experience and personalization systems. This is a highly visible and technical role responsible for the Search platform, which leverages machine learning and behavioral data to power content relevance, ranking, and personalization. You’ll work cross-functionally with engineering, data science, machine learning, and content teams to ensure users consistently find the most relevant, delightful content whether they’re searching in GIPHY, Instagram, or any platform where our technology lives.

Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve the Search roadmap, including algorithmic improvements, infrastructure optimization, and product performance across surfaces.
  • Lead the Signals team strategy, defining how we capture, process, and use behavioral signals to personalize user experiences and improve search relevance.
  • Partner with engineering and ML teams to deliver high-impact ranking, recall, and semantic search improvements.
  • Collaborate with design, data science, and content teams to align product features with user behavior and intent.
  • Define KPIs, design experiments, and build the data foundation needed to understand and improve search quality.
  • Drive the long-term vision for search and recommendation systems that scale across billions of queries and diverse integrations.
  • Research state-of-the-art search and recommendation systems across the industry; assess GIPHY’s performance against them and identify opportunities to close gaps in relevance, speed, and personalization.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of product management experience, including 2+ years working on search, personalization, or machine learning systems.
  • Strong technical background and familiarity with ML concepts, relevance tuning, ranking models, and data pipelines.
  • Proven ability to interpret complex data, identify actionable insights, and drive high-impact product decisions.
  • Experience building and scaling search or recommendation platforms.
  • Deep analytical thinker. You’re fluent in experimentation, cohort analysis, and performance metrics.
  • Excellent communicator and collaborator who thrives in cross-functional environments.
  • Passionate about expressive media, internet culture, and shaping how people communicate.
