The following position is to join our BBN team: For over 70 years, scientists and engineers in disciplines at RTX BBN Technologies have collaborated to solve real-world problems through research, exploration, development and prototyping. We challenge the status quo, pioneer new technologies, and create transformative solutions. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with C experience to join our Physical Sciences & Systems business unit located a stone’s throw from seaside Newport, Rhode Island.

Responsibilities

  • Actively manage and participate in task execution with a small team of developers for a critical U.S. Navy system.
  • Coordinate, assign, and track tasks for each of the team members.
  • Enforce code reviews and team adherence to software configuration management (CM) and requirements traceability processes.
  • Mature and maintain a software development plan.
  • Mentor junior software developers.
  • Develop software for leading edge Linux real-time software systems hosted on VPX hardware.
  • Oversee the re-architecture and hardening of developmental system code.
  • Develop software release plans, informal unit testing procedures, and cost/schedule estimates for software design efforts.
  • Collaborate with the integrated product team consisting of software, hardware, modeling and algorithms, test, and field support personnel.
  • Work alongside the customer and other contractors to support the integration, test, and sustainment lifecycle phases.

Requirements

  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or relevant discipline; plus 8 years of experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience.
  • Experience developing C-based Real-Time software.
  • Ability to lead and contribute to concise software design technical documents.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience creating software development plans and leading a software team.
  • Familiarity with Git, Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence, and Coverity.
  • Proficiency in one or multiple of the following: MATLAB, Simulink, bash, Python.
  • Proficiency optimizing algorithms in C.
  • Experience developing software for Redhawk Operating Systems.
  • Experience with deterministic processing and computing system optimization.
  • Experience with high TRL software development and maintenance.
