About the position

Runwise is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join one of the largest and fastest-growing energy tech companies in the US. Runwise has offices in New York and Boston but is a remote-first product/engineering company, and has been since its creation. Runwise (www.runwise.com) is a fast-paced, customer-focused climate-tech startup that controls and runs the key energy systems (heating, water, etc…) in 7500+ buildings throughout the US. Runwise’s unique hardware and software service significantly reduces energy usage, substantially lowering costs and carbon output. As of today, Runwise’s technology takes the equivalent of 80,000 cars worth of carbon emissions off the road each year. We’re seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to contribute to impactful new product features and significantly improve our operational posture. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design, test, implement, ship, and operate with excellence the core software deployed in our buildings and the serverless cloud infrastructure that processes & analyzes billions of data points. Your efforts will directly increase our customers’ climate control savings, improve their tenants' comfort, and decrease our carbon footprint.

Responsibilities

  • Being a core contributor to our core Golang app and AWS infrastructure.
  • Contributing to our Operational Excellence by improving our monitoring & alerting across all aspects of our ecosystem, including cloud and IoT infrastructure.
  • Contributing to our Python application, powering our computers that execute climate control algorithms and process live data from sensor networks in buildings.
  • Writing code that efficiently and intelligently processes billions of data points per year.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience writing in Golang
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience as an engineer
  • Extensive experience with AWS services like DynamoDB, SQS, AWS Lambda, EC2, and Cloudformation
  • Passionate about building new products and working with systems at scale.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with BMS, Niagara, and BACnet
  • Experience with Python is a plus.
