About the position

This position is for a pharmacist within the federal system, requiring a doctoral degree in Pharmacy recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an equivalent accrediting body. The role involves dispensing medications, providing information to health practitioners and patients, evaluating medication use patterns, and performing administrative tasks related to pharmacy programs. Applicants must have a valid pharmacy license and demonstrate the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Dispensing medications prescribed by physicians and other health practitioners.
  • Providing information to health practitioners and patients about proper usage of medications and side effects.
  • Evaluating medication use patterns and outcomes for patients in hospitals or managed care organizations.
  • Performing administrative, consultative, or staff advisory work for a medical facility's pharmacy program.
  • Planning, monitoring, and evaluating medication programs or regimens.
  • Establishing medication-handling procedures for the storage and preservation of medications.
  • Researching medical literature and/or clinical medication information to provide accurate responses to inquiries.
  • Maintaining all medication records required by law.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in Pharmacy recognized by ACPE or equivalent.
  • Licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory.
  • 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree for GS-11 level.
  • Minimum of one year of professional pharmacy experience for GS-12 level.
  • Ability to distinguish basic colors.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in compounding prescriptions and formulating drugs.
  • Advising on drug therapy and usage in a hospital or clinic.
  • Applying quality assurance protocols to data collection for pharmacy-based clinical programs.
