About the position

PayPal, Inc. seeks Software Engineer 3 in San Jose, CA. The role involves estimating software engineering efforts, prioritizing projects, planning implementations, and triaging production issues. The candidate will work with established and cutting-edge technologies to build highly resilient, low-latency, high throughput and 4 9’s availability services. Responsibilities include designing, developing, and testing new software capabilities to meet business needs, collaborating with peers and seniors within the Payments team and across the organization, and working with product managers using agile methodologies to deliver high-quality software solutions on time. The position also requires working with operations teams to ensure applications and services are highly available and reliable, supporting software application services as needed, and utilizing strong fundamental knowledge of Object-Oriented programming. The candidate will design and build RESTful interfaces in a commercial setting, build SQL and NoSQL solutions, and understand the pros and cons of relational and free form databases. Knowledge and experience in software design and implementation for reliability, availability, scalability, and performance are essential.

Responsibilities

• Work with product managers using agile methodologies to deliver high quality software solutions on time.
• Work with operations teams to ensure applications and services are highly available and reliable.
• Support software application services as and when required.
• Utilize strong fundamental knowledge of Object-Oriented programming.
• Design and build RESTful interfaces in a commercial setting.
• Build SQL and NoSQL solutions and understand the pros and cons of relational and free form databases.
• Utilize knowledge and experience in software design and implementation for reliability, availability, scalability, and performance.

Requirements

• Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field plus two years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
• Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a closely related field plus five years of progressively responsible experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
