Responsibilities

  • Author and/or approve software and/or AEH lifecycle data items including Plan for Software and Hardware Aspects of Certification, Software/Hardware Configuration Index, Software/Hardware Accomplishment Summary, etc.
  • Lead and/or participate in Stage of Involvement (SOI) reviews and associated documentation.
  • Participate in development of System and LRU requirements and architecture definition.
  • Participate in development of software and/or AEH high-level and low-level requirements.
  • Participate in development of System Safety documentation including Aircraft Functional Hazard Assessment, Preliminary System Safety Assessment, and System Safety Assessment.
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of Textron Aviation's software and hardware processes, procedures, and certification culture relating to both in-house developed and supplier developed software and/or AEH.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers to make them more knowledgeable in the many facets of software and/or AEH certification ultimately towards becoming future UMs.
  • Provide guidance and/or oversight to suppliers whose products incorporate software and/or AEH to ensure they are following an appropriate path to software and/or AEH approval.
  • Assist others in authoring software and/or AEH lifecycle data in compliance with company plans and standards as well as certification authority guidance material.
  • Participate in recurrent training as required to maintain active ODA UM status.
  • Witness software verification tests at Textron Aviation facilities and/or supplier facilities as required.
  • As an ODA Unit Member will make findings of compliance for the FAA in the above areas.
  • Participate and/or lead the development of certification plans, compliance reports, Issue Paper responses, etc. to assist engineering teams in ensuring all aspects of software approvals are addressed for an aircraft Type Certification project.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or other related Engineering field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience relating to Airborne Electronic Hardware, Software, or aircraft development programs.
  • In-depth knowledge of RTCA/DO-178, RTCA/DO-254, RTCA/DO-330, 14 CFR Parts 23 and 25.
  • Prior Type Certification, Supplemental Type Certification, or Technical Standard Order Authorization experience, up to and including IDAL A required.
  • Business Jet and General Aviation development and certification experience a plus.
  • FAA Designated Engineering Representative, ODA Unit Member status or candidate status.
  • Experience with C, 8051 Assembly, and ARM Microprocessors desired.
  • Experience with VHDL, Xilinx and Altera PLDs and FPGAs desired.
  • Experience with domestic and foreign business and/or general aviation aircraft certification process is required.
  • Experience in safety analysis using modeling tools such as Failure Modes and Effect Analysis (FMEA), Failure Modes and Effect Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Reliability Block Diagram (RBD), and Fault Trees Analysis (FTA) desired.
  • Experience with use of electronic test equipment is desired.
  • Strong computer, written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software application and working environment required.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment and be able to clearly communicate thoughts and ideas with peers, management, and certification authorities.
  • Strong time management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Software and/or AEH FAA delegate approval qualifications (14CFR Part 23 or 25) desired.
