About the position

Are you a full-stack Software Engineer who excels in a dynamic, product-driven environment? If so, Principal has a great opportunity within our Benefits & Protection business, focusing on Non-Qualified Retirement IT. This position is available at the heart of our customer experience at www.principal.com and many internal applications. As an experience-based product team you’ll work close to the customer (Employers, Advisors, and Plan Participants) and the internal service teams that support them. This position will enable you to work on existing on-prem applications while we continue to embark on our journey into the Cloud (via AWS/Salesforce). The right candidate will have experience with many front-end development frameworks, traditional Java, AWS, and familiarity with Salesforce. Requirements

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in computer science, technology, engineering or math-related field or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years work experience as an IT professional.
  • Proficiency with Cloud (AWS) and traditional on-prem Java applications/frameworks.
  • Some Salesforce experience preferred.
  • Ability to acquire certification(s) in an IT related field is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of insurance and financial services products preferred.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, problem-solving, analytical, decision-making and communication skills required.
  • Basic leadership and presentation skills required.
  • Excellent time management skills preferred.
  • Must maintain a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Some travel may be required, including overnight stays.
  • May be required to provide on-call support.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with AWS (Lambda, Dynamo, Cloudfront).
  • Experience with traditional Java & JavaScript.
  • Experience with front-end frameworks (React, Angular, some legacy JSF).
  • Salesforce Admin experience.
  • Salesforce Development (Apex/Experience Cloud) experience.
  • SOQL/SQL exposure.
  • Hungry, curious, driven and the ability to take initiative.
  • Innovative, think creatively and ask tough questions.
  • Unafraid to ask questions and work through ambiguity.
