About the position

This is a Hybrid Office position for either South San Francisco, CA or Salt Lake City, Utah. Our team is flexible on working from home but we do need to go to the office to work with lab users and equipment for certain projects. Expect 1-3 days a week in the office, depending on our current projects. We need a Software Engineer III to help Myriad Genetics, Inc. deliver innovative products that allow patients to make life-changing decisions. Our genetic screening and testing help to provide actionable insights to empower people to make critical and timely healthcare decisions by using molecular diagnostic tests for hereditary cancer, urological cancer, depression, and other diseases. We are excited about the future and remain committed to advancing the science of personalized medicine as we develop more products to address unmet medical needs. The software automation team is responsible for building software tools to support our highly automated production sequencing lab. We work closely with hardware engineers and molecular biology scientists to build automated workcells using the most advanced industrial automation and lab automation equipment available. Our software supports the simultaneous processing of thousands of samples across multiple workflows and our workcells run 24/7.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implementation, test, deployment, and maintenance of our in-house developed laboratory automation software stack.
  • Make design decisions involving overall system architecture and implementation patterns to ensure future reliability, scalability and flexibility of our laboratory operations.
  • Write and perform integration tests with real and simulated devices.
  • Interface with other teams to develop software requirements.

Requirements

  • A degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
  • 2+ years of industry experience in a high-level language, predominantly Python and JavaScript.
  • 2+ years of industry experience working with web application development, using Django as a web framework and React/Typescript for front end development.
  • Relational database experience, specifically with PostgreSQL.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals: design, testing, version control.
  • Strong communication skills.
