Staff Backend Software Engineer

About the position

Coupang is a rapidly growing retail company in South Korea, focused on enhancing customer experiences through innovative solutions in commerce. The Coupang Corner Stone team is responsible for company-wide transaction data storage and common data service layers, utilizing technologies like Cassandra, Elastic Search, MySQL, Vitess, and Clickhouse. The team seeks a Staff Engineer with expertise in Cassandra and Kubernetes to lead system design, implementation, and operations, ensuring high availability and performance of storage services.

Responsibilities

• Develop features to enhance system availability, disaster recovery, and performance.
• Fix complex technical problems within the system.
• Participate in daily system operations to address issues and customer inquiries.
• Identify reliability and performance issues and propose industry best practice solutions.
• Collaborate with the team manager to define tech and project roadmaps.
• Work with other tech teams to ensure service extensibility for business growth.
• Communicate effectively with Principal Engineers and Senior Directors.
• Promote engineering and operational excellence within the team.
• Hire and develop team members through knowledge sharing and high-quality interviews.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field.
• Mastery of Cassandra or Kubernetes configuration, operation, and enhancement.
• Familiarity with AWS technology.
• Solid system and code debugging skills.
• Deep understanding of service availability, scalability, and latency.
• Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
• At least 6+ years of experience in software design and development on distributed systems.
