Bring your bold new ideas, and pioneering spirit to our team to invent the future and have some fun along the way. We are looking for a Staff Level Software Engineer to join our Software team. The location for this opportunity is in Melbourne, FL and will be primarily based within our office spaces to support program and business needs. Operating on our 9/80 schedule meaning you will get every other Friday off. In this role you will be developing software for an aircraft system simulation that integrates multiple Operational Flight Programs (OFPs) to provide representative flight characteristics, mission system performance, signatures, and weapon interfaces. As a staff engineer reporting to a simulation team product owner, the selected candidate will be expected to make detailed software architecture and design decisions in response to team priorities and schedule constraints. You will document and communicate software architecture decisions for the team while mentoring junior developers and perform as an individual contributor at the code-level to achieve team software product objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, documents, tests, and debugs software solutions for simulation of military aircraft performance and subsystems within virtual warfare, training, and lab test environments.
  • Integrates real-time vehicle control and mission system software, adapting code to work with simulation network interfaces and runtime environments.
  • Charts the course for developer-level design decisions related to an aircraft 'in a box' federated performance model and collaborates across the team to document and adhere to those objectives.
  • Collaborates across Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to assess hardware requirements and system capabilities to drive decisions on programming techniques and configuration management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and at least 12 years’ experience, or STEM master’s degree with 10 years’ experience, or a STEM PHD with 8 years’ experience.
  • Ability to obtain and/or transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government Secret clearance, and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time.
  • Knowledge of Agile software development using C++ in Windows or Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments with Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket).
  • Experience developing software for military aircraft vehicle management and mission systems.
  • Experience integrating code for real-time Operational Flight Program (OFP) software into a virtual simulation environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with the Vehicle Management Real Time Component Framework (RTCF).
  • Experience with Open Mission Systems (OMS) interfaces.
  • Experience with mission systems software including RF sensing (radar, electronic warfare) and battle management.
  • Experience leading small software teams.
