About the position

Aurora’s mission is to deliver the benefits of self-driving technology safely, quickly, and broadly. The Aurora Driver will create a new era in mobility and logistics, one that will bring a safer, more efficient, and more accessible future to everyone. At Aurora, you will tackle massively complex problems alongside other passionate, intelligent individuals, growing as an expert while expanding your knowledge. We’re searching for a Staff Software Engineer – Fleet Intelligence to join our team. The Fleet Intelligence team sits at the core of Aurora’s mission to scale safe autonomous driving. We build systems that synthesize data across our entire ecosystem—from vehicles, operators, and external sources—to improve real-time self-driving capabilities and operational excellence across our entire fleet.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and drive strategic initiatives to build scalable full-stack web services that power real-time and offline data flows essential for fleet optimization, autonomy improvement, and commercial operations.
  • Provide technical leadership and influence best practices across multiple teams, guiding the design, development, and deployment of complex systems at the intersection of web services and real-world autonomy.
  • Develop and deploy robust, well-engineered solutions, leveraging modern frontend frameworks and building highly available, low-latency backend services, APIs, and data pipelines.
  • Mentor and grow senior engineers, raising the technical bar for the entire organization through code reviews, design discussions, and promoting a culture of engineering excellence.
  • Partner with leaders across autonomy, cloud infrastructure, and operations to define technical roadmaps, align on priorities, and drive complex projects from inception to completion.
  • Translate complex operational data and autonomy metrics into actionable insights through scalable operator-facing tools and powerful APIs, directly improving our efficiency and product.

Requirements

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of industry experience in software development, with a proven track record of designing, building, and operating large-scale full-stack systems.
  • Deep expertise in both front-end and back-end development, including scalable web services, distributed systems, and modern API design.
  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership role, driving technical strategy, influencing architectural decisions, and mentoring senior engineers.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively partner with cross-functional teams and present technical solutions to a diverse audience.
  • Proficiency with cloud infrastructure and DevOps practices (e.g., AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and monitoring/alerting systems).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience defining technical roadmaps and driving long-term strategic projects that span multiple engineering teams.
  • Prior experience in autonomous vehicles, robotics, or real-time distributed fleet systems.
  • Deep understanding of data modeling, data pipelines, and integrating third-party data sources into production systems.
