About the position

The Product Design Engineer role will give you direct responsibility over the mechanical design, analysis, assembly and reliability of parts within Apple Vision products, spanning the full design cycle from concept generation, prototyping, testing and collaborating with vendors to bring your design to life. You will frequently engage in multi-disciplinary collaboration with teams like Industrial Design, Project Management, Manufacturing, EE, Display, Camera, Antenna, Battery, Softgoods, Human Engineering, Safety and more.

Responsibilities

  • Direct responsibility over the mechanical design, analysis, assembly and reliability of parts within Apple Vision products.
  • Engage in multi-disciplinary collaboration with various teams.
  • Oversee the full design cycle from concept generation to prototyping and testing.
  • Collaborate with vendors to bring designs to life.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
  • 6 years of hands-on product design experience.
  • Strong mechanical engineering analytical skills.
  • Experience selecting materials and manufacturing processes based on engineering requirements.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD, creating 2D drawings and practical application of GD&T.
  • Proficiency in tolerance analyses with statistical techniques.
  • Experience working in technical project groups in a professional environment.
  • Practical experience working with external manufacturing vendors (DFM/DFA, FAI/CPK dimensional reports).
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering materials and understanding of property tradeoffs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with failure analysis, root cause investigation, and DOE creation.
  • Detail oriented and capable of handling multiple assignments at once.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or similar field.
  • Experience designing consumer electronics.
  • Knowledge across disciplines such as wearables, optics and lenses, cameras, sensors, displays, PCBs and flexes, antennas, batteries, thermals, mechanisms, comfort and ergonomics.
  • Fluent in Unigraphics NX including surfacing.
  • Experience with statistical software (JMP) and MacOS.
  • Experience working through full product cycle including mass production and collaborating with Asian manufacturing facilities.
