About the position

The City of Hampton is excited to offer a unique opportunity to join the Hampton Coliseum as a Summer Intern. This paid professional development program allows college students, recent college graduates and graduate students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in event promotion, advertising, and media coordination, providing a unique opportunity to learn how large-scale events are marketed and executed at the Hampton Coliseum. Interns will engage with real-world projects that shape the future of customer service in Hampton, collaborate with seasoned professionals, and make meaningful contributions to the City's efforts in providing outstanding customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and implementing targeted social media campaigns for upcoming events.
  • Coordinate media activations, including setting up press opportunities and advertising campaigns.
  • Create marketing collateral such as flyers, event programs, and online content.
  • Support promotional efforts to enhance visibility and ticket sales for shows and events.
  • Coordinate with the operations team, promoters, tour managers, and other stakeholders to ensure all show requirements are met.
  • Oversee and manage the physical setup of the event, including staging, lighting and sound.
  • Schedule staff positions for events, ensuring all roles are covered efficiently.

Requirements

  • Current Student, Recent Graduate or Graduate Student: Must be currently enrolled as a rising college junior, a rising college senior, or a recent college graduate (2024 or 2025) or a current graduate student studying Marketing, Communications, Events, Tourism and Recreation, or a related field from an accredited college/university and be in good academic standing.
  • GPA: 3.0 or higher.
  • Cover Letter: Applicants must submit a cover letter expressing how their education and experience aligns with this internship and what they hope to gain from the experience.
  • References: Two (2) references one of which must be from a current or former professor/advisor are required.
  • Background Check: Must successfully pass a background check.
  • Skills and Attributes: Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a strong work ethic.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in event promotion or marketing.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and content creation.
  • Knowledge of event logistics and management.
