About the position

The Admissions Counselor I position at Malvern Health is a per diem role focused on facilitating the admissions process for patients seeking psychiatric and alcohol-related services. This role involves initial contact with referral sources, coordinating the intake process, and ensuring that patients have access to necessary services through effective communication with insurance companies and other departments. The position requires working every other weekend and may include additional shifts during the week.

Responsibilities

• Answer admissions inquiries and facilitate the admissions process to the appropriate site for intake.
• Document current needs/problems and past medical, psychiatric, drug, and alcohol history in electronic records.
• Respond to and direct emergency situations as necessary.
• Greet family members and patients upon arrival and escort them to the waiting room.
• Explain the admissions process and services offered to patients and family members.
• Obtain patient signatures for consent and intake forms.
• Complete pre-certification with patients' insurance companies to ensure access to services.
• Communicate pertinent clinical information for unit hand-off to nursing and clinical aides.
• Participate in continuing education and training for professional growth.
• Follow all infection control practices and prepare the midnight census.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree preferred.
• Knowledge of addictive diseases preferred.
• Experience in healthcare, admissions, and insurance preferred.
• Technical skills in MS Office, billing software, and EMR systems.

Nice-to-haves

• Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, or Human Services field.
• Licensed RN or Master's in Social Work.
