Performs technical and clerical functions in one or more sections of the laboratory. Routinely performs phlebotomy procedures, and monitors supplies in collection areas. Performs approved testing and preparation procedures within the laboratory.
Responsibilities
Assists with collecting, receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing and transporting specimens.
Maintains adequate stock of supplies.
Maintains work area in a safe, aseptic and organized manner.
Performs clerical duties including answering phones, data entry, and filing.
Communicates test results to appropriate healthcare providers.
Assures that charging is accurate for all tests collected, including proper registration in MIS.
Accessions specimens into MIS.
Plants and processes microbiology cultures on selected media to ensure optimal growth and isolation of organisms for identification and/or susceptibility testing.
Loads barcoded specimens on autoanalyzers and performs waived tests (dipstick urines).
Demonstrates a sensitivity to the patient's situation and age by engaging in patient instruction to relieve anxiety when performing phlebotomy and other patient interaction.
Greets and escorts patients and visitors and gives routine information following hospital guidelines and department guest relations policy.
Treats fellow employees and supervisors with the same courtesy, respect and cooperation as shown to guests and patients of the hospital.

Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Completion of a certified phlebotomy training program preferred.
1 year phlebotomy experience preferred.
