About the position

The Assistant Maintenance Manager at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey plays a crucial role in supporting the management of airport maintenance operations. This position involves overseeing facility maintenance practices, coordinating work efforts with various airport units, and managing contracts and budgets. The incumbent will also be responsible for responding to airport emergencies and ensuring compliance with administrative policies.

Responsibilities

  • Support the day-to-day operation and JFK Redevelopment.
  • Oversee the creation, implementation, and improvement of facility maintenance practices.
  • Identify, assess, and facilitate airport maintenance priorities.
  • Coordinate work efforts with other airport units/tenants.
  • Advise/direct senior maintenance field supervisors in various units.
  • Oversee the development and management of contracts and coordinate maintenance activities during snow.
  • Develop and monitor budgets, including utilization of SAP and PeopleSoft.
  • Assume complete responsibility for the management of the division in the absence of the Manager.
  • Manage facility maintenance operations, union agreements, employee discipline, and grievance procedures.
  • Respond to airport emergencies and inclement weather conditions without delay.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Aviation, Transportation, Planning, Engineering, Business, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in aviation, transportation, maintenance, or related business field.
  • Strong leadership capability to manage and motivate diverse teams.
  • Ability to report immediately to airport emergencies, 24/7.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to supervise in a union environment at an operating facility.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and assess training needs.
  • Ability to prepare and analyze financial data and management reporting tools.
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in computer systems: Word, Excel, Peoplesoft, Outlook, BudgetPro, and SAP.
