About the position

The Biomedical Engineer at LENSAR, Inc. will leverage their expertise in biology, engineering, and biomechanical standards to enhance the design, development, and implementation of innovative biological systems and products aimed at improving vision. This role involves optimizing laser procedures, conducting research, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to advance the company's cutting-edge femtosecond laser technology for cataract surgery.

Responsibilities

  • Optimize laser procedures to treat cornea and crystalline lens in pre-clinical research facilities and clinical settings.
  • Provide support for cross-functional development teams of engineers and scientists throughout the development process in the laboratory research setting, fielded clinical evaluations, and regulatory filings.
  • Document laboratory testing protocols and results in compliance with the GLP regulations and company policies.
  • Design, test, and implement new processes for creating biomedical equipment, products, and surgical procedures as needed.
  • Assist other scientists in the development of techniques for organ culture to further progress in the experimental measurement of mechanical, optical or biomechanical properties of the eye or organs in the eye.
  • Use advanced computational techniques to model a wide range of biomechanical, optical, and biomaterials-related properties of eye tissue.
  • Generate internal reports summarizing relevant research advances.
  • Present relevant progress in published scientific articles or in presentations at scientific conferences.
  • Generate intellectual property and aid in the evaluation of intellectual property.
  • Assist in the preparation of regulatory documentation in support of regulatory submissions.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or PhD in Bioengineering / Biomedical Engineering or related.
  • 3+ years' experience working with medical devices or conducting biomedical research.
  • A solid understanding of design principles.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, thoroughness, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in laboratory experimental techniques of working with biological tissue.
  • Knowledge of relevant FDA, EU, and GLP quality system regulations.
  • Experience with analytical methods or characterizing the refractive characteristics of optical systems, particularly those used in vision science.
  • Familiarity with optometric diagnostic instruments such as optical coherent tomography (OCT), corneal topographers, and aberrometers.
