The primary function of this role is to oversee and manage incoming concept design projects within the department. This involves leading the creative direction discussions with the design team, sales, and Vice President of Sales & Marketing to strategize the best design approach within budget constraints. Additionally, the role entails managing departmental tasks, such as tracking design statistics and supporting the design team with project development. Common challenges include balancing client expectations with budget limitations, ensuring designs are feasible for construction and engineering approval, and managing timelines for rendering and graphic design projects. Keep the team updated on current design trends, and use own creativity to ensure designs are executable within budget and engineering constraints. Create line drawings and color renderings of design concepts tailored to meet client needs within budget and feasibility constraints. Provide leadership, mentorship, creativity, and professional development opportunities to the design team to foster a high-performance culture. Implement performance management system and process to set expectations, monitor performance, and provide feedback. Oversee training and development to enhance team capabilities, skills, creativity and competencies. Lead succession planning efforts to identify and develop future leaders within the department and organization. Provide accurate and current reports on design statistics to the Vice President of Sales & Marketing on a weekly basis. Collaborate with Scheduler to ensure efficient use of teammate time and smooth project flow. Participate in daily design meetings to ensure Design team members are outputting the highest quality designs. Provide feedback, training, and mentoring to teammates on their designs. Strategize and implement improvement initiatives for the Design department. Analyze past projects to determine if original design were lost due to budget or design creativity. Conduct market research and continuously explore alternative methodologies and sources for improvements and innovations.
