About the position

The Department Manager for Structural Engineering at Hixson is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the structural engineering department. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the design and construction of complex structures, managing a team of engineers, and ensuring the structural integrity of designs. This position involves collaboration with multidisciplinary teams on large-scale projects, requiring strong technical expertise and management skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the structural engineering department and manage project workflow.
• Serve as the Structural Engineer of Record (SEOR) for projects across the United States and Canada.
• Ensure compliance with all local, state, provincial, and federal regulations.
• Perform detailed structural analysis and design for large-scale, complex projects.
• Drive employee development and engagement through coaching, mentoring, and training.

Requirements

• BS in Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an emphasis on structures.
• PE required with the ability to be licensed in all 50 U.S. states and Canada.
• 10+ years of experience in structural design and analysis/project leadership responsibilities.
• Prior management, staffing, and team building experience.
• Strong interpersonal skills, work ethic, and leadership capabilities.
• Wide range of knowledge in the design of structural steel, concrete, masonry, cold-formed metal framing, deep foundations, and precast.
• Competence in design/analysis software such as Ram Structures/Elements, TEDDS, Hilti Profis, and L-Pile.
• Self-starter with the ability to manage priorities and work independently.
