About the position

The Director of Laboratory at Rutherford Regional Health System is responsible for overseeing the laboratory department's activities and resources to meet organizational objectives. This role involves managing staff, ensuring regulatory compliance, and collaborating with other departments to enhance healthcare delivery. The director will implement departmental goals, manage budgets, and foster a positive work environment while ensuring high-quality patient care and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Directs the department's activities and resources to achieve departmental and organizational objectives.
  • Manages staff to produce a positive culture and work environment.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory standards within the department.
  • Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with organizational requirements.
  • Evaluates departmental operations, including patient care delivery and complaint management, to achieve performance objectives.
  • Plans and monitors staffing activities, including hiring and training.
  • Interacts with senior leadership to prepare and evaluate departmental budgets.
  • Creates an environment that encourages professional growth and coordinates training for interns.
  • Integrates evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols.
  • Plans, organizes, and directs the overall operation of the Laboratory Department.
  • Ensures services are of high quality and cost-effective.
  • Maintains compliance with federal CLIA regulations and participates in QA activities.
  • Coordinates the ordering of supplies and evaluates new equipment needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Master's Degree in related field preferred
  • ASCP Certification required
  • Minimum 5 years Lab experience (preferably in an acute setting)
  • Minimum 3 years management experience preferred
  • Critical thinking skills and decisive judgment
  • Technical writing abilities
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good organization and prioritization skills
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment
  • Proficiency in MS Office
