About the position

Rockstar is recruiting for a mission-driven technology company focused on solving the affordable housing crisis through innovative marketplace solutions. The client is a fast-growing organization dedicated to creating positive social impact by making housing more accessible and affordable. Rockstar is supporting this client in their search for a Director of Design (Product & Marketing) to help elevate their design efforts and drive meaningful change. The client is seeking a Director of Design (Product & Marketing) to lead and elevate design efforts across product and marketing, ensuring a seamless and impactful user experience from first engagement to long-term retention. This hybrid role combines hands-on design work with strategic leadership, shaping the brand, refining design systems, and mentoring a talented team of product and marketing designers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and communicate the design vision by creating a strategic roadmap that aligns with company goals and user needs.
  • Mentor and coach designers on their craft, methodology, and career growth, providing feedback and support for ongoing improvement.
  • Lead design execution for high-priority initiatives in both product (e.g., feature research and UI design) and marketing (e.g., digital campaigns and presentations).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Marketing, Product, and Engineering, to ensure cohesive brand and user experiences.
  • Refine and evolve the brand identity, ensuring consistency across all touchpoints, from marketing materials to product interfaces.
  • Enhance the current design system by creating component libraries, style guides, and documentation to support a consistent end-user experience.
  • Advocate for human-centered design in leadership discussions, promoting the value of qualitative research and customer insights.
  • Analyze and review user feedback and data to inform design decisions and prioritize feature improvements or new projects.
  • Facilitate design critiques and feedback sessions, fostering a collaborative and iterative design culture.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and integrate best practices to keep design and branding at the forefront of the market.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of design experience, with a demonstrated focus on both product and marketing design.
  • 3+ years of experience leading and mentoring design teams, showcasing the ability to foster growth and collaboration.
  • Strong portfolio that highlights a diverse range of design deliverables across product and marketing projects.
  • Deep expertise in user-centered design principles, methodologies, and research, ensuring the customer voice is central to all initiatives.
  • Proficiency in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite, with the flexibility to adapt to additional design, prototyping, and research tools.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, capable of articulating design decisions to stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
  • Understanding of marketing and product metrics, such as conversion funnels and campaign performance, to align design efforts with business outcomes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with marketplaces or real estate industries is a plus, providing valuable context for the company’s mission and operations.
