About the position

Brook Health is a digital health company that extends health-care-management beyond the walls of doctors’ offices and into people’s homes. The company provides personalized support for individuals living with chronic conditions through a smartphone app that offers AI tools, data collection via connected devices, and real-time access to health coaches. Brook also offers a CDC-approved preventative program for those at high risk for diabetes and SaaS tools for primary care providers for continuous remote monitoring. The company aims to change the approach to chronic condition care management using technology to improve health outcomes. The Director of Design - UX and UI will lead design strategy and execution across Brook's digital health products. This role involves shaping user interactions with the platform, creating intuitive experiences that drive clinical outcomes and user engagement. The director will build and mentor a design organization, establish design systems, and report to the Chief Product Officer.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute UX/UI vision for Brook's product experiences, aligning design strategy with clinical outcomes and business objectives.
  • Establish design principles and standards that balance consumer-grade usability with healthcare compliance requirements.
  • Lead design transformation initiatives leveraging AI/ML to personalize patient experiences and streamline provider workflows.
  • Drive accessibility standards ensuring inclusive design for diverse patient populations including elderly and disabled users.
  • Translate regulatory (HIPAA, FDA, ADA) and clinical requirements into intuitive, scalable experiences.
  • Establish design guidelines for seamless workflow across all Brook product interfaces.
  • Develop playbooks that ensure new features fit coherently into Brook’s broader healthcare-technology stack.
  • Stand up a mixed-methods research practice that feeds directly into prioritization.
  • Partner with Data Analytics to instrument products and create dashboards highlighting friction points and outcome metrics.
  • Work cross-functionally with various teams to balance usability, feasibility, and viability.
  • Manage vendor and agency relationships to augment capacity or specialized skills.
  • Monitor healthcare UX trends, accessibility guidelines, and design-system innovations.
  • Conduct ongoing competitive audits to identify whitespace opportunities.
  • Serve as Design Owner within agile squads; ensure design deliverables meet Definition of Ready/Done.
  • Implement KPIs for design quality and iterate on process improvements.
  • Hire, onboard, and coach designers; run weekly critiques and individual growth plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of professional UX/UI experience.
  • 5+ years leading multi-disciplinary design teams in healthcare, fintech, or other regulated domains.
  • Proven success shipping mobile and web products under HIPAA, FDA, or comparable constraints.
  • Expertise in design-system architecture and governance across multiple brands or product lines.
  • Fluency in quantitative and qualitative research, product-discovery frameworks.
  • Executive-level verbal & written communication skills.
  • Portfolio demonstrating measurable impact on business and/or clinical outcomes.
  • Experience with conversational interfaces and AI-driven interactions is a plus.
