About the position

As a Director of Product Design at Flex you will work with your design team and cross-functional leaders to guide the product and design strategy to ensure we are solving the most pressing customer problems and delivering an exceptional experience. You will help define new features and evolve our core product offerings to drive retention and growth. You will hold a high bar on your team to make sure designers are refining every detail of the native consumer product – from how they apply our design systems to the interaction patterns they choose. You’ll help set the tone for what design leadership at Flex looks like by being a vocal advocate for our customers to help shift our maturing business from one focused on speed and delivery into one focused on delivering truly delightful and supportive financial products. As we seek to expand our product to meet the needs of new demographics and verticals, our approach to product design and our brand expression will be key differentiators to help our business grow.

Responsibilities

  • Own and lead the design team and strategy for our core rent products
  • Shape and drive a vision for the consumer experience
  • Align and connect multiple teams to deliver on that vision and achieve business goals
  • Facilitate and lead your team to explore and refine their solutions for critical projects
  • Set a high standard for quality across everything your team does, from designing concepts to core features to contributions made to evolve our Design System, Ultraviolet
  • Collaborate with other design leaders to ensure alignment and consistency across all teams working on the consumer experience
  • Influence design and product decisions by staying in touch with how the design industry and UX trends are evolving
  • Test folding AI into both your team workflows and our UX strategy to build for the future
  • Invest in the growth and development of both your direct reports and the design team at large through operational excellence
  • Constantly reinforce our Flex principles and culture through your own behaviors and actions

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as a senior or staff product designer and 4+ years managing a team of designers
  • Extensive experience designing and shipping consumer-facing native digital products, ideally in-house (not as a consultant or at an agency)
  • Exposure to and understanding of what it takes to build and maintain a scaled, mature design system
  • Excellent communication skills. Ability to understand complex technical and product challenges and translate them into compelling, clear design challenges for your team to tackle
  • Ability to use both qualitative and quantitative insights to develop and guide your team toward a customer-centered strategy
  • Ability to give direction throughout each stage of the design process, from research to concepting to refinement and prototyping
  • Demonstrated aptitude for getting things done to make your team successful – wearing several different hats when necessary
  • Comfort with ambiguous problems
  • Motivation to be a self-starter
  • Passion for financial products and improving people’s financial lives
