About the position

Old Redford Academy is seeking a dedicated High School ELA Teacher who is committed to enhancing student engagement and improving the reading culture within the school. The role involves planning lessons, developing curricula, and providing academic support to students while ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment. The academy emphasizes a holistic approach to education, inspired by the Montessori Method, and aims to foster a collaborative learning atmosphere where all students can thrive.

Responsibilities

• Reading all prescribed novels, poetry, and additional resources to gain a thorough understanding of them before developing lesson plans and curricula.
• Collaborating with other English department staff to develop lesson plans, teaching strategies, and interventions.
• Developing lesson plans and curricula based on the needs of individual students and classes.
• Grading tests, assignments, exams, and other assessments, and communicating with parents, students, teachers, and counselors regarding underperformance and other concerns.
• Assessing student needs and providing support or extra resources to struggling students as well as exceptional achievers.
• Expanding teacher networks and participating in workshops, lectures, and other learning opportunities.
• Ensuring all curriculum, school, and state requirements are met.
• Participating in faculty meetings and professional development activities as required.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in teaching or relevant field.
• Michigan Teaching Certification with endorsement.
• In-depth knowledge of teaching methods and legal educational procedures.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
• Well-organized with excellent leadership abilities.
• Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills.
