About the position

The Electrical Maintenance Technician position at West Fraser involves performing routine electrical and electronic preventative maintenance on mill equipment, ensuring the repair, modification, and maintenance of various electrical and electronic systems. The role requires adherence to safety regulations and the ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. The technician will also engage in continuous learning to stay updated with technical changes and equipment designs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine electrical/electronic preventative maintenance on mill equipment
  • Repair, modify, and maintain a variety of electrical and electronic equipment
  • Wire circuits, replace components, and repair electronic devices
  • Perform test readings using instruments like multi-meters and Meggers
  • Attend classes to remain current in technical changes or equipment designs
  • Work rotating shifts, including nights, holidays, weekends, and overtime as scheduled or required
  • Maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations
  • Complete all required training
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills
  • Background in electrical fundamentals
  • Knowledge in 3 phase and single-phase power distribution systems
  • Experience with motor controls, wiring, and troubleshooting of electrical systems
  • Experience with 480-volt power and logic circuits
  • Strong computer, math, analytical, and planning skills
  • Ability to understand and follow electrical schematics without supervision
  • Familiarity with machine control systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex machine control systems
  • Ability to identify features and functions of controllers
  • Ability to describe and compare pneumatic and electronic controllers
  • Ability to identify the signal path through a control circuit
  • Eligible to legally work in the United States without employer sponsorship
  • Willingness to work a 12-hour rotating schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to work on an emergency call-in basis when required
  • Ability to work as part of a team and deliver value to the team
  • Willingness to cross-train to learn new jobs and skills
  • Consistent, predictable attendance

  • VFD drives experience
  • PLC experience
  • Ability to interpret PLC logic as it relates to its application to process and equipment for troubleshooting purposes
