About the position

The Electronic Technician B - Optics position at RGNext involves the inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of optical tracking systems and associated support equipment. This role is critical in supporting mission-critical systems that launch and track various space launch vehicles. The technician will work in both field and lab environments, ensuring the functionality and reliability of optical systems essential for national defense and space operations.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, adjust, align, repair, refurbish, and clean small and large aperture telescopes on range optical tracking systems.
  • Perform related repairs and refurbishments on optics using mechanical drawings, electrical/electronic schematics, and vendor/shop manuals.
  • Conduct Programmed Depot Maintenance (PDMs), Unscheduled Depot Level Maintenance (UDLMs), and Emergency Depot Level Maintenance (EDLMs) on optics range systems.
  • Complete assigned training to establish proficiency and qualification for mission support.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the work environment, optics lab, and equipment weekly.
  • Perform technical duties in operating, troubleshooting, testing, repairing, calibrating, and inspecting instrumentation and communication equipment.
  • Troubleshoot to component level and repair electronic and electromechanical equipment.
  • Perform routine and test support operations based on standard operating procedures.
  • Prepare calibration charts, logs, and test documents, and maintain required parts for tests and equipment.
  • Perform modifications and checkout tasks.
  • Assist engineers, Space Force personnel, and other technicians in required tasks.
  • Produce reports using Microsoft Office products and other lab software.
  • Adhere to established policies and procedures for job site safety and security.
  • Provide technical direction and assistance to electronic technicians.
  • Assist in supply and property procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Laser Electro-Optics, Optics, Photonics, Electronics Technology, or related fields; equivalent military experience or combination of education and work experience.
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a photonics/electronic/mechanical technician.
  • Two years of experience as an Instrumentation Operator Repairer (IOR) or equivalent electronic technician experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of optics, photonics, or electronic theory.
  • Experience with mechanical technical repairs of complexity.
  • Experience identifying and using tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and soldering irons.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Interferometers, lasers, autocollimators, power meters, and alignment lasers.
  • Knowledge of optical theory, ray tracing, wavefront theory, and optical aberrations.
  • Knowledge of optical evaluation and handling of optical materials.
  • Knowledge in optical analysis or design software.
  • Knowledge of camera functions and theory.
