About the position
This position involves performing complex transportation maintenance work while operating heavy equipment such as a tractor-trailer haul truck, motor grader, large excavator, heavy bulldozer, crane, herbicide truck, heavy asphalt paving machine, self-propelled asphalt distributor, profiling/milling machine, and dump truck. The work requires interaction with private entities and is performed independently, with unusual issues referred to a supervisor. The role includes assisting with traffic control, monitoring and filling out various reports, and operating both light and heavy equipment for maintenance and roadway repairs. Employees may also serve as project leads, train others, and respond to emergency situations.
Responsibilities
- Assists with traffic control by placing and gathering cones, warning signs, and barricades; flags traffic.
- Monitors and fills out various required reports including time-keeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms, and Preventative Maintenance Inspection (PMI) checklist.
- Operates light equipment such as a front-end loader, pneumatic roller, rotary broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper, and mower.
- Operates complex heavy equipment including tractor-trailer haul truck, motor grader, large excavator, heavy bulldozer, crane, herbicide truck, heavy asphalt paving machine, self-propelled asphalt profiling/milling machine, and dump truck.
- Relocates heavy and light equipment using tractor-trailer haul trucks, including loading, securing, and unloading equipment on haul trailers.
- May serve as a work crew project lead ensuring work performed meets project specifications.
- Trains other employees on equipment operation and safety procedures.
- Performs highly complex transportation maintenance and roadway repairs.
- Sands or cleans bridges and roads, posts warning signs, helps the public, and performs other work during emergency situations.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- No education required.
- 1 year experience in maintenance and/or construction equipment operation.
- Valid driver’s license required for driving a state vehicle.
- Must have a valid Texas Commercial Driver's License for equipment operation at time of application.
