About the position

The Firefighter 2 position is responsible for managing, supervising, and participating in wildland fire suppression, prevention, and education. This role involves directing seasonal firefighters during fire response operations, particularly in aerial firefighting using helicopters. The incumbent will ensure compliance with federal and state regulations while maintaining safety and efficiency in fire operations. The position requires extensive knowledge of firefighting tactics, incident management, and aviation operations, along with the ability to provide training and direction to others.

Responsibilities

• Manage and supervise wildland fire suppression and prevention activities.
• Direct 3-7 Seasonal Firefighters during initial and extended attack fire assignments.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and division regulations and policies.
• Maintain qualifications and proficiency in fire response and aviation operations.
• Provide training and work direction to other firefighters.
• Assist in the management of the Wildland Fire Protection Program.
• Conduct resource projects such as timber stand improvement and prescribed fire.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Three years of firefighting experience, or two years as a Firefighter I in Nevada State service, or equivalent education and experience.
• Valid driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
• Ability to pass a medical examination and physical agility test.
