About the position

The Grocery Key Person assists the Grocery Manager in overseeing the operations of the Grocery Department, which includes Frozen, Dairy, and Liquor/Beer sections. This role involves supervising and training staff, managing inventory, and ensuring customer service excellence. The Grocery Key Person may also take charge of the entire store in the absence of the Store Director and Grocery Manager, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures while promoting a positive shopping experience for customers.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Grocery Manager in directing the operation of the Grocery Department.
• Supervise and train personnel in the grocery department.
• Order, receive, store, price, stock, and merchandise products.
• Handle customer relations and resolve complaints effectively.
• Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques.
• Prepare task lists for night stockers and manage inventory changes.
• Control shrink and prevent the sale of out-of-code products.
• Open and close the store as needed.
• Ensure compliance with sanitation, safety, and security policies.
• Implement emergency procedures in case of equipment malfunctions.

Requirements

• Extensive retail background with prior management experience in retail operations.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Good leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage and develop people effectively.
• Knowledge of employment laws and workplace practices.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
• Knowledge of basic mathematics and weights and measures.
