About the position

The Group Exercise Instructor is responsible for leading and motivating members in group fitness classes, ensuring a safe and engaging environment while enhancing overall fitness, strength, and endurance. This role involves educating members on fitness techniques, monitoring participants for safety, and maintaining a positive atmosphere during classes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver group fitness classes based on industry standards and approved formats.
  • Instruct participants on effective workout methods and demonstrate exercises.
  • Provide clear verbal instructions and maintain a motivational atmosphere.
  • Coach and motivate class participants to achieve their fitness goals.
  • Interact with participants, answer questions, and solicit feedback for member retention.
  • Ensure all participants use correct form and offer modifications for different fitness levels.
  • Maintain a positive and professional attitude towards responsibilities and members.
  • Promote Gold's Gym group exercise in a professional manner.
  • Deliver scheduled classes consistently and coordinate substitutes when necessary.
  • Provide appropriate music for classes and ensure it is legally purchased.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the group exercise room.
  • Notify management of any equipment or facility repair needs.
  • Record hours worked and class attendance accurately and timely.
  • Attend required staff meetings and training sessions to improve skills.
  • Uphold the company's vision, mission, values, and policies.

Requirements

  • Current hands-on CPR/AED certification and basic first aid training.
  • Minimum of six months teaching experience in a group exercise environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of group exercise principles and safe exercise techniques.
  • Maintain nationally recognized Group fitness certification by ACE, AFAA, or ACSM.
  • Provide verifiable proof of specialized skill/training such as Yoga, Pilates, etc.
  • Knowledge of group fitness teaching strategies and choreography.
  • High degree of energy and physical fitness to complete workouts.
  • Knowledge of basic physiology, human anatomy, kinesiology, and training principles.
  • Demonstrated engaging and motivational leadership skills.
  • Ability to create and follow appropriate choreography combinations.
  • Positive and effective interpersonal communication skills.
  • High degree of professionalism with the ability to motivate others.
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot audio equipment.
