About the position

The Stormwater Engineering Intern position at Gannett Fleming offers an opportunity for students to gain practical experience in stormwater management and environmental engineering. Interns will work on real client projects, contributing to the design of highway drainage systems and green infrastructure while receiving mentorship from experienced professionals. This role is designed to foster innovation and collaboration within a supportive team environment, with a strong potential for conversion to full-time employment after the internship period.

Responsibilities

  • Support real client projects by assisting in the design of highway drainage systems, green infrastructure, and stormwater management basins under supervision.
  • Assist in performing hydrologic watershed modeling and basic hydraulic models.
  • Aid in conducting bridge scour analyses and simple scour countermeasure designs.
  • Assist with drafting construction plans and preparing environmental permit applications.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an ABET-accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program in Civil, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering.
  • Demonstrated interest in stormwater and environmental engineering through applied coursework or previous internships.
  • Familiarity with software tools such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, Excel, and Word.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience with HydroCAD, StormCAD, WaterCAD or Hydraflow software.
